For this year’s Lunar New Year Special, we decided to make a dumpling inspired by a classic LNY treat - Turnip Cake aka Lo Bak Go. Lo Bak Go is a savory dish made from shredded daikon radish and rice flour, seasoned with shiitake mushrooms, Chinese sausage, and dried shrimp - all of which are included in this recipe along with ground pork. It symbolizes prosperity and good luck, as the word for "turnip" (luo) sounds like the word for "prosperity" in Cantonese.
We wish you all wealth and good fortune for the year of the snake. Lo Bak Go is traditionally steamed and then pan-fried so we recommend doing the same for this dumpling. We also made a house XO soy sauce for an extra punch.
